Michelle Apotsos, specialist in African art, to join the faculty


Michelle Apotsos has joined the faculty as a specialist in the arts of Africa with a focus on classical African architecture, Afro-Islamic art, and the effects of globalization/modernity on African visual culture. She completed her Ph.D. in Art History at Stanford University and recently served as a research associate at the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Michelle was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, West Africa (1999-2001) and maintains an active academic and personal interest in the region. She will teach ARTH 583 Going to Ground: Considering Earth in the Arts of Africa in Spring 2015.
