Clark / CIHA Lecture Series 2020-21: Art Worlds of Brazil / Os Mundos da arte no Brasil

Art Worlds of Brazil / Os Mundos da Arte no Brasil is a series of pre-recorded lectures that will be shared between September 2020 and June 2021, in anticipation of the 35th Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art (CIHA) World Congress: “Motion: Migrations” to be held in São Paulo August 2–6, 2021.

Each month, a scholar and foremost expert from Brazil will present a lecture on Brazil’s artistic heritage and contemporary culture, with topics ranging from Afro-Brazilian contemporary art to Indigenous art and collections, and many more exciting subjects. These talks will introduce viewers to the rich, varied, and historically complex art environments of Brazil, spanning architecture, museums, galleries, collectives, alternative circuits, and artistic traditions originating within and expanding beyond the country’s borders. This series offers a rare chance to learn directly from the academics and museum professionals who are researching, writing, teaching, conserving, and exhibiting these histories today.

The lectures will be posted on the Clark and the CIHA websites once a month starting September 24. For more information on the conference, please consult the CIHA São Paulo website.

Convened by Claudia Mattos Avolese, member of the CIHA São Paulo organization committee, and the Research and Academic Program of the Clark Art Institute.
