Jack Whitten: Beyond Abstraction

Jack Whitten will present a lecture on his work entitled, “Jack Whitten: beyond Abstraction.”

Jack Whitten (b. 1939) began his earliest experiments in painting during the 1960s by creating dynamic works inspired by Abstract Expressionism. His work of this period manifests emotionally complex meditations on sociopolitical events that shaped his own understanding of life: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, the Civil Rights movement, and the Vietnam War among them.
