MESTIZA PORTRAIT SERIES and ARTIST TALKS--Citlali Fabián

Citlali Fabián, an Oaxacan photographer, will give an artist’s talk on her Mestiza Portrait Series displayed on the 1st and 2nd floor lobbies of Hollander Hall. The opening reception is on Monday, March 4 at 4pm and a second walk through with the artist is on Wednesday, March 6 at 4pm.

In this series, she works with her Yalatec community, photographing her mother, cousins, nieces, and friends. Her work explores different ways to address identity. She develops her projects in film and 19th century photographic processes like Wet Plate Collodion and Daguerreotype.

Some photos from her current project, Ben’n Yalhalhaj/Soy de Yalálag, are on display in the Object Lab at WCMA. This series documents the Yalatleca community in Mexico and the United States.

She will also be part of a panel discussion on “Indigeneity” and the Cultural Production of Mexico’s Pueblos Originarios on Tuesday, March 5 at 7PM in Griffin 7.
