Public lecture: Jeremy Melius on “Idolatrous Ruskin”

This lecture revisits the relationship between Victorian critic John Ruskin and his disciple and translator Marcel Proust in order to rethink key aspects of Ruskin’s investments in the past, present, and durational intensity of works of art, as well as to offer new insight into his fervent belief in language’s power to grasp and restage a phenomenal world that is always slipping away.
