WCMA 125: What’s in a Name?: The Politics of Identification in African Art

Join Michelle Apotsos, Assistant Professor of Art at Williams College, for a discussion about naming practices in museum collections. Potential topics include the implications of identifying an artist as “Unknown,” using the name of a cultural group in the place of an individual artist, or identifying a contemporary artist in a way that they might contest.

Thursday, Aug 25, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Williams College Museum of Art.
